The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 may be launching months earlier than anticipated. Anyone who has been following the release of Samsung Galaxy Notes, Flips, and Folds may have noticed that Samsung usually launches these smartphones late in the year, circa September/October.
However, the South Korean tech giant may be doing things a little differently this year. According to a tweet by Ice universe (@UniverseIce) yesterday, we may be seeing the release of Samsung’s latest installment of the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold a couple of months earlier than anticipated.
Samsung released the Galaxy S21 5G, S21+ 5G, and S21 Ultra 5G in January of this year. If this is to be Samsung’s new schedule for releasing its flagship devices, then it makes sense that they would release new iterations of the Z Flip and Z Fold series around the middle of the year. That means that going forward, we would be seeing a new flagship Galaxy device every six months under Samsung’s new device release calendar.
However, this is not certified news and it remains to be seen whether or not there is some truth to the rumors. The latest available Flip is the Z Flip 5G 2 5G and the latest available Fold is the Z Fold. Both devices were released in August and September 2020, respectively, so it is not far-fetched that they will both be released in July this year.
What to Expect?
The most notable difference coming to the Z Fold 3 may be sort of a downgrade, depending on how you look at it. Samsung may be switching from the Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) that the previous generation of the Fold was made of, to plastic. Changes are also rumored to be made to the display size, with the Z Fold 3 expected to come in 7.55 inches of screen real estate with a 6.21-inch cover. This is only slightly smaller than the Z Fold 2 5G which had a 7.6-inch screen and a 6.23-inch cover. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also rumored to be priced similar to the Z Fold 2 at $2,000 a unit.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 might be retaining the 6.7-inch display that its predecessor had, and is rumored to have a refresh rate of 120Hz. There are also rumors of a budget version of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 - perhaps a Z Flip 3 Mini. Time will tell which of the rumors are true, and which are not. Either way, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
