Four new smartwatches from Samsung are expected soon, as the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Active series recently got certified on 3C. The devices were spotted on the website with the model numbers; SM-R680 for the Galaxy Watch Active 4 39mm, SM-R870 for the Galaxy Watch Active 4 43mm, SM-R880 for the Galaxy Watch 4 41mm, and SM-R890 for the Galaxy Watch 4 45mm.
The smartwatches are expected to feature a Super AMOLED display, and come with IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, an accelerometer, a barometer, a gyro, GPS, a heart rate monitor, SpO2 measurement, and sleep tracking. They will be powered by a 5nm Exynos processor.
Before the certification, Samsung announced that it had collaborated with Google to merge the Tizen OS that its smartwatches operated on with Google's Wear OS.
According to a statement published by Google,
Samsung and Google have a long history of collaboration. Now, we’re bringing the best of Wear and Tizen into a single, unified platform. By working together we have been able to take the strengths of each and combine them into an experience that has faster performance, longer battery life and more of the apps you love available for the watch.
For performance, our teams collaborated and made apps start up to 30% faster on the latest chipsets with smooth user interface animations and motion. To achieve longer battery life, we’ve worked to optimize the lower layers of the operating system – taking advantage of low-power hardware cores to enable better battery life. That includes handy optimizations like the ability to run the heart rate sensor continuously during the day, track your sleep overnight and still have battery for the next day. Finally, our unified platform will make it easier for developers to build great apps for the watch.Google
Since the Galaxy Watch Active 4 39mm has been certified with a 247mAh battery, it is expected that the other three smartwatches will pack larger batteries with 5W wireless chargers and no adapter inside the box.
There is no official announcement yet by Samsung regarding the smartwatches but they are expected to debut in August alongside the Galaxy Z Foldable smartphones at the Samsung Unpacked press event.
