OnePlus finally held its much-anticipated (and much-teased/leaked) event on the 23rd of March, and the company unveiled its latest smartphone series - the OnePlus 9 series, alongside its first-ever smartwatch - the OnePlus Watch. The OnePlus Watch won't be available for the public to buy until next month (April), but the company has already provided a discount coupon that lets you shave $20 off the $159 price tag of the smartwatch when it goes on sale. It's tagged the "OnePlus Watch Appreciation Credit", and anyone can claim this discount from now until April 14 on the official OnePlus Day event website.
While we wait for the smartwatch to become available and reviews from tech gadget experts and YouTubers to roll out, the OnePlus Watch has an impressive specs and features list, and it remains to be seen if it all eventually pans out as juicy as it seems on paper. It comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display which is covered with scratch-resistant sapphire glass, and the device possesses an IP68 rating which certifies it to survive in up to 50m of water and at a pressure level of up to 5ATM. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 LE (Low Energy), and while it doesn't run on Google's Wear OS, OnePlus offers its own proprietary platform that's compatible with Android 6.0 and later versions of the Android OS.
The OnePlus Watch also caters to fitness enthusiasts, offering over 110 Workout modes with automatic detection for running and jogging, tracking of metrics such as SWOLF efficiency (for swimmers), distance, calories, and speed, and it packs an optical heart rate sensor amongst other sensors for capturing important data. The device packs a 402mAh battery which could last for up to 14 days and provide up to a week's worth of juice on a 20-minute charge, and it has 4GB of onboard storage for standalone music playback. Yes; playback, as the OnePlus Watch comes with speakers and a microphone for handling calls.
