HMD Global has scheduled a new event for Thursday, the 8th of April, with the tag #LoveTrustKeep and little to no info about what's to be expected at the event. Based on events around the company and brand over the past few months, we expect that HMD Global would announce a few smartphones including the long-rumored Nokia 6.3/6.4, the Nokia 7.3 whose renders surfaced in late 2020, and the Nokia G10 which is rumored to be a mid-range gaming smartphone. It is also expected that the April event will be held virtually and streamed on the company's official website, as well as other popular streaming platforms.
Press invites for the upcoming event are already being sent out almost a month in advance, with the poster image featuring a casually-dressed unknown man staring into a forest with pine trees, and a 'save the date' teaser with the event date and time, #LoveTrustKeep hashtag and the company's tagline being the only other pieces of text on the image.
We expect that the Nokia 6.3 - the mid-range successor to the Nokia 6.2 - which has been in the news since May 2020, will be launched - or at least announced - at this event. Details about the Nokia 6.3 emerged via OnLeaks last year, stating that the device will pack a 24MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro camera array on the same circular module as the Nokia 6.2, with the LED flash beneath the module. The device could have a 16MP camera up front, with a waterdrop notch and a ~6.45-inch display, all design languages similar to the Nokia 6.2. The Nokia 6.3 (which could also be called the Nokia 6.4) could come with a mid-range Snapdragon 67x or 730 chipset, at least 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal memory.
From the rumoured renders of the Nokia 7.3 that surfaced last year, we expect the smartphone to pack a mid-range Snapdragon 690 5G chipset, a 4000mAh battery, 6.5-inch FHD display with 90-120Hz refresh rate, a 48MP primary + ultra-wide + macro + depth sensor camera array on the back, and a 24MP camera upfront.
News about the Nokia G10 is newer (pun unintended) on the horizon; the supposed gaming smartphone from HMD Global was first revealed last week, and comes with specs you would expect on a device dedicated to gaming. The device is said to pack a not-yet-announced octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 775 processor, a 5000mAh battery, and a 6.5-inch QHD+ PureDisplay V4 display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. A Penta-camera setup is expected on the rear as has become customary with Nokia smartphones, but the usual 48MP primary sensor might be upgraded to a whopping 108MP on the G10.
Other happenings expected at the April event include a change in the naming convention for the company's smartphones from numbers (Nokia 6.3, 7.3, etc) to a combination of numbers and whole numbers, which could very well play out if the Nokia G10 is announced at the event, and is indeed called the "G10". HMD Global usually makes these types of announcements and smartphone launches at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) February events, but the pandemic has made such physical events impossible and the company would likely stream this event publicly, as it did in September.
The #LoveTrustKeep event is set for 3PM GMT on the 8th of April, and we expect more details about the event to unfold in the coming weeks.
